NDIS guide

A plain-language guide to the NDIS and how to start using your plan with Westcott Services.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for supports that help people with permanent and significant disability to live their lives and reach their goals. It is run by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

If you are an NDIS participant, you have a plan that sets out your goals and funding. You choose which registered or unregistered providers to use, and you have the right to change your mind.

Do I have access to the NDIS?

To check your eligibility or start an access request, contact the NDIA on 1800 800 110 or visit ndis.gov.au. Local Area Coordinators and Early Childhood partners can also help.

What is in my plan?

Plans group funding into support budgets. Check your own plan for exactly what is included, as the details are different for everyone.

  • Core supports: everyday help such as personal care, household tasks, transport and community participation.
  • Capacity building supports: building skills and independence, such as life-skills development and support to transition.
  • Capital supports: equipment and home modifications.

How is my plan managed?

There are three ways to manage your plan funding. We welcome all three.

Self-managed

You manage your own funding and pay providers directly. This gives you the most flexibility.

Plan-managed

A registered plan manager pays your providers and keeps track of your budget. We send invoices to your plan manager.

NDIA-managed

The NDIA pays providers directly. You can only use registered providers like us.
